The SBA “Startup America” Program

The recent White House initiative to help small businesses called the SBA “Startup America” program is one you can access through our UnsecuredBizLoan website at your convenience. This program works through the Small Business Administration (SBA) to help entrepreneurs obtain capital and training so their businesses can become more successful. Expansion of small businesses is important to a local community because business success is translated locally into more jobs, income and helps increase the tax base needed to provide community services.

The SBA has two $1 Billion programs to provide additional money to that made available by the private sector to small business owners. The goal of this program is to help promising high-growth companies expand and thrive. There is no new cost to taxpayers for these programs; they are funded by SBA-guaranteed bonds. Part of the funding is targeted to help companies that are located in underserved communities, distressed economic areas and new sectors of the economy like clean energy. Other Startup America funding is earmarked for helping early stage businesses that may otherwise have difficulty obtaining funding for their development.

The Small Business Administration provides mentors, counseling and training to entrepreneurs and has special partnerships with the Department of Energy and other government agencies that are focused on development of clean energy and related products. It is a pilot program that will eventually develop into a larger network of assistance for clean energy business entrepreneurs.
